We’ve put together all the important information we think you’ll need on the day (and in preparation for the day) on this page. You’ll receive all the information in a handout on the day too so don’t worry about bringing it with you.

Schedule

The schedule is subject to change. We recommend creating an account with Sched and building your custom schedule so you can keep up to date with any changes and we can understand demand on sessions to manage the event. There’s also a pretty nifty app available too (iOS, Android). You can view the schedule directly on Sched here and bookmark it on your phone if you’d rather not download the app.

Travel Information

Travelling by Car

The conference centre is easily accessible by car with limited parking available on-site. Simply follow signs to the UWE ECC or find the UWE Exhibition and Conference Centre in Google Maps. There’s lots of spaces but not if everybody drives – please car share wherever possible. You’ll need a parking permit which is sent to the email you used when you got tickets.

Travelling by Train

Bristol Parkway Station is 1.2 miles away from the conference centre. It’s a 25 minute walk along a pedestrianised route, a short bus ride away on the 19A Bath City Center service getting on at Stop A (at Parkway) and getting off at Filton Lane (4 stops) where its a 7 minute walk from there, or a short (6 min) taxi/uber ride costing from £5 to £8 depending on demand.

Travelling by Plane

Bristol Airport is 14.4 miles from the conference centre. There are no direct bus or train routes from the airport but there are routes with changeovers averaging 1 hour – it’s best to consult Google Maps or a travel app to determine the best route based on the time of day. It’s a 30 minute taxi/Uber ride costing between £24 to £35.

Hotels

There are several hotel choices near to the conference centre – make sure you book it quickly, we’re expecting a lot of people!

  • Holiday Inn Express (5 min drive, 16 min walk)
  • Holiday Inn (5 min drive, 18 min walk)
  • Village Hotel (15 min drive, 50 min walk)

Event Information

Food and Drink

Tea (£1.65) and coffee (£1.85) will be available from a pop up shop which will take both cash and card. Water will be freely available from dispensers around the event. Lunch on both days will be provided – both vegetarian and meat options will be catered for, and a gluten free option is available for lunch on Friday. Unfortunately we’re not able to cater to any other dietary requirements including gluten free on Thursday or vegan on either day. There’s supermarkets and a student union shop near the venue.

Schedule

We’re using Sched to manage the event schedule. You can view all sessions and read speaker and sponsor bios through the web page or by downloading the app ‘Sched’ and searching for BSIDES BRISTOL. We recommend getting the app to build your own personal schedule and make sure you don’t miss a thing.

Workshops

Workshops will have a limited capacity and entry will be given on a first-come-first-in basis. We’ll provide more information nearer to the event.

Social

The BSides Bristol social will take place from 5PM to 11PM on Thursday 20th June at the UWE Students Union. Free food will be provided (meat and vegetarian curry options) and drinks are at student prices! Vehicles can be left in the UWE conference centre car park over night and taxis can be booked to the UWE conference centre for pick up (no taxis can reach the SU building).
